PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Barry Berg is a specialist in the renovation and adaptive reuse of older
structures. As designer and project architect he brings to each assignment
unique design talent and specialized expertise in historic preservation.
As a senior associate with the firm Mr. Berg currently manages the renovation
of St. James’s Episcopal Church on Madison Avenue in New York City,
including extensive work on the sanctuary, parish house, flexible classroom
space and meeting rooms. His experience also includes a number of renovation
assignments for the landmarked Plaza Hotel, as well as the restoration
of Mystery Point, an historic estate in the Hudson Highlands.
Prior to his association with Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects, Mr. Berg
worked in collaboration with M. Rosaria Piomelli, Architect. He was previously
affiliated with the firms of Brown and Daltas Associates in Rome, Italy;
Charles G. Hilgenhurst Associates in Boston, Massachusetts; I.M. Pei &
Partners and Richard Meier, in New York. In addition, he has been Director
of Design and Production for Darwish Architects, also located in Rome.
As a consultant to Darwish Architects, Mr. Berg was the Chief Designer
for the Holy Mosque Library and Museum in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He was
responsible for the design of the research library and the museum, specialized
facilities for Islamic art and manuscripts.
Mr. Berg’s extensive experience also includes five regional headquarters
for the Saudi Arabian Central Bank; a thirty-one story office building
in Manhattan’s Financial district; and the renovation of Staten
Island College. He has also been responsible for several other projects
on Staten Island and the design of the town square and adjacent pedestrian
street in Rome, New York.
