These Jessica Stockholder images are a great example of an artist who finds potential in the world around her... especially in the sense that her palette is often in response to the objects she selects for her sculpture/paintings. You can tell by looking at them that the objects, whether stuffed animals or refreigerators come packed with meaningful associations and references, but then also trigger a purely visual response in both the artist and viewer. I can sense her decision-making as she works-- "I like this piece here... what will my response be to it now?" One move determines the subsequent course of action in terms of the structure being built a certain way, objects being added or removed and, in terms of color, what works and what doesn't?
