THis small image does not do the drawing justice. Look at the variety of marks that describe all the different components of this work: the pheasant, those very particular, yet stylized leaves on the tree... little grass blades, etc etc.
Posted by: ct at August 18, 2004 09:15 PMthe traditional chinese style of painting is amazing. the artists seem to get such a wonderful quality of line that they can translate into whatever they want you to believe. the whole style is based on line unlike the west where we depend on any number of things such as color and perspective to get our point across. these paintings are refreshing.
