The sight of that many book covers torn from their rightful places makes me a little uncomfortable, though part of me would love to make such a collection myself. In fact, I am often tempted to buy books that I already have because I like the cover or because something about the book seems to speak to me.

Covers really do speak loudly. Even if it is the same text, the presentation of the book can shape perceptions on what the book is like. A good, interesting cover can sell a book; many people care quite a bit about how visually pleasing something is.

I am definitely drawn to the weird when it comes to book jackets or covers, though; the austere and straightforward might look neat and tidy, but the zany ones are a lot more fun!
