Francis Bacon. The first two images are studies for self-portrait, from 1982 and 1985 respectively (the second image is part of a triptych); the third image is not a self-portrait, but it features a figure that is conspicuous by its erasure.

As we work with photos, we can get tied down to its representation, so that we vary our own image only in fairly timid ways. But what Photoshop can do is make the photo as plastic, as changeable, as paint.

I really like the muted colours and the bars that streak down and seem to splash on the floor. all the edges fall in with one another.

there is for me an overwhelming sense of horror
