when you look over the image and pan side to side, it gives the illusion that the circles are turning. i could stare at this thing for hours

sampson, it's true, you brought this crazy image to my attention. upon you i bestow the credit, seriously. i was actually feeling bad for not acknowledging you, but alas during the nervous moments of my posting demo, i choked. "i found this image" served as a generic reference to a description. so sorry. thanks for the tip.

More curious to me than the seeming movement of the image are those little red snake-tongue-looking things on the perimeter.

A machine powered by the eyes. What a cool image.

I have a guess as to why the circles are moving. I learned in a psych class that your eyes are actually vibrating. They vibrate because our brain stops paying attention to sensory info if it is unchanging. This is a way to filter our overwhelming sensory info being taken in. In order to keep the info changing the eyes vibrate, and when the little dots are arranged the right way, we think they are moving.

It's impossible to focus on the whole picture so you just have to let those circles keep turning huh?
