One of my favorite photographs, found while looking for reference pictures at http://www.sxc.hu/ .

Awww.. how precious.
Posted by: Becka Ledford at September 30, 2004 09:49 PMI really like this picture. When you stop looking at just the overall picture and you start zooming into specific details it shares a lot. I noticed their faces. The boy has this look of awe, of wonder. the father, his arm is protecting him, holding him, cherishing him. This picture just really spoke to me.
Posted by: Christine Brown at September 30, 2004 11:15 PMi do like it. the subject is absolutely great.
but i think the photographer stumbled a bit with the framing. it just seems off. i want to see more face.
most of the stuff on stock exchange is usually either really strange or not very good. usually the latter. there is a reason the pictures are free to use.
Posted by: David Siciliano at October 1, 2004 03:25 AMChristine, you hit it- it's not the overall picture, but the details that get me.
You're right about Stock Exchange. Once in a while I stumble onto a gem, though, and it's a great place to find references for paintings- especially interesting faces and the like. I'd certainly prefer to work from a royalty-free picture as opposed to something I found in Vogue.

Posted by: David Siciliano at October 1, 2004 03:26 PMI like how Dad is somewhat protecting his son... even though it's not a dangerous situation. What a great Dad... or at least this is what I think when I see the picture
