gridfont

Douglas Hofstadter designed gridfonts in the 1970's in an attempt to distill the essence of every letter, what he called the "conceptual skeleton." There turn out to be a lot of different skeletons possible on the same matrix. This is 88 versions of the letter "a". Scanned from The art of looking sideways, Alan Fletcher.
